A Good Snapshot Keeps a Moment from Running Away

July 10, 2013

What makes a "good" picture? I personally think that most people's idea of a "good" picture means the light has to be PERFECT and the focus has to be crisp. I went to fine art school, where imperfection was welcome with opened arms. In fact, it was even more welcome than those so-called perfect pictures. Don't get me wrong, I definitely love a nice, clean, crisp photo. But I really love those pictures that take me back to my art school days of taking a risk and not knowing what the outcome is going to be!

To me, a photograph is about capturing a moment - a fleeting moment that will never come again. While photographing a wedding recently, I took a photo that really in essence is everything that I just said above.

To some this image may be flawed... sure, it's blurry... but to me this image is about so much more. It's about a moment. I am so happy to have captured this image exactly as I did.

“What I like about photographs is that they capture a moment that’s gone forever, impossible to reproduce.”
